Welcome Foolish Mortals to Haunted Katydid

2023 Update:

Please note: this Halloween we’ll be displaying only half our installation due to time/work/life constraints.

Oct 29-31st 6:30-8:30

However, the new additions for 2024 are currently in the works, eagerly awaiting their grand debut.

A Halloween Installation inspired by Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion

Haunted Katydid is an outdoor Halloween installation which re-creates scenes from Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. All built by a stay at home mom since 2019.

We set ourselves apart with our non-jumpscare, immersive, highly detailed experience.

We are located in the Park Village neighborhood of Rancho Penasquitos in San Diego, CA.

FAQs

Tips:

Parking

Katydid Circle is a situated on a hilled, dead end cul-de-sac. It is better to park at the entrance of our street closer to the intersection of Salvia.

Crowds

We are busiest right at opening. If you get here a little later closer to 8 it will be less busy. You might want to wait for the rest of your friends on the sidewalk before entering. Yes this sounds overkill but not really. Despite having an entrance, Madam Leotas seance tent, a dining room scene, a hallway of doors, an attic, a graveyard and an exit we are still a very tiny property (just detail oriented).

Is it the same as last year?

We are relatively new on the scene so we have been improving and adding new builds each year.

We will not be offering a scavenger hunt this year.

Can we view the decorations on dates not listed?

Due to the fragile nature of the items and my very busy schedule as a sports mom we set up only on the nights listed. They are not out during the weekday.

Can we come before 6:30pm?

The decorations are meant to be enjoyed in the dark. Wait until dark if possible. If you come before 6:30 we’ll still be setting up!

Are your decorations scary? We have young kids.

If your littles are scared of the Disneyland ride, maybe they will be scared of the decorations. We have many young kids come night after night due to the non-scary environment. There are no zombies, clowns, skeletons, serial killers, creepy dolls, jump scares, blood, hotdog fingers, aliens, black eyed kids or people in scary costumes. There may be some low lying fog. There are some animatronic elements in the attic scene like moving furniture. Don’t worry! Nothing will jump out. Our decorations are strictly based on the Disneyland ride.

Wheelchair accessible?

Yes! Our driveway has a slight slope. All walking paths are on concrete. We have some stairs leading out to the sidewalk but you can access the driveway instead.

Does it cost anything to visit?

Only your soul. The musicians accept tips.

Where can I buy the decorations?

I hand-build 95% of what you see. I rarely buy Haunted Mansion or Halloween merchandise off the shelf. If I do purchase items it’s generally custom from etsy. I try to incorporate thrift store only finds.

… Most importantly please
